About Dahab

Dahab is a small town on the south-west coast of the Sinai Peninsula. Inhabited by Bedouins for centuries, over the years it has transformed from a small isolated fishing village into something of an alternative travel destination. The crystal clear waters and golden sands of the Gulf of Aqaba are what makes Dahab special but it's the chilled out, relaxed atmosphere which distinguishes it from other Red Sea resorts. Unlike it's "bigger brother" Sharm you won't find endless rows of 5star hotels and sanitised boulevards here! With it's mix of palm trees, beach front living and picture-postcard views Dahab has managed to keep a simplicity that's lacking in many other Red Sea resorts.

Inexpensive food and drink from the many beach front restaurants along with cheap backpacker style accommodation are some of the things that made Dahab part of the traveller scene but it has so much more to offer. Camel trips into the desert with the local Bedouin, horse riding on the beach, and of course some of the best diving in the Red Sea are just a few of the things available to do.

As Dahab has matured as a travel destination it's amenities have also grown. There are numerous doctors clinics, pharmacies and a hospital. Also, of particular importance to divers, Dahab now has two hyperbaric recompression chambers not to mention the many shops ranging from the traditional bazaars selling t-shirts, spices and various souvenirs to the many internet cafes which keep people connected.

Passport & Visas

For most nationalities*, a 30 day tourist visa can be obtained upon arrival at any of the major points of entry for 15$ US. You will need a valid passport, ideally with at least 6 months left. When entering from Israel at the Taba crossing you may elect to have a free 14 day stamp instead of a visa. Beware! This only allows limited travel in Sinai and does not extend far enough to cover diving in Ras Mohammad National Park or trips to The Thistlegorm.

*Notable exceptions include all African nations, Russia, India & Pakistan. These and other nationalities must obtain a visa before they travel. For more information, try the Ministry of Foreign Affairs website in the Travel Links section.
